Overview
As Junior Commodore of the Sarasota Yacht Club Ensign Board, I secured over $55,000 in youth-focused grants by drafting proposals and leading presentations, funding a book vending machine and multiple book orders for Alta Vista Elementary, supporting Wilkinson Elementary’s Holiday House Initiative, and expanding funding to new SPARCC and CPC youth programs.
Reporting and Writing
I drafted detailed grant proposals outlining funding needs, projected impact, and community outcomes, tailoring messaging to secure board approval and financial support.
Editing, Leadership
and Team Building
I led discussions with adult board members, coordinated youth volunteers, and ensured grant initiatives aligned with both club values and community needs.
design
I organized proposal materials and presentation visuals to clearly communicate financial data, impact goals, and implementation plans.
broadcast journalism
I presented impact updates to adult audiences through videos broadcasted to the whole of Sarasota Yacht Club (i don't have my hands on the videos at the moment).
photojournalism
I documented moments that reflected our community impact including the book vending machine project at Alta Vista Elementary.
web and social media
The Observer and other media outlets covered our impact and I participated in various interviews and web outreach.
Law, Ethics and News
Literacy
Managing grant funds required financial accountability, accurate reporting, and responsible communication about how donations were distributed.
Marketing and
Audience Engagement
I articulated clear community impact in proposals and presentations, building trust and securing continued investment in youth initiatives.
Commitment to
Diversity
The funded programs directly supported students from underserved communities, ensuring equitable access to books, holiday gifts, and essential resources.

personal growth
Leading grant initiatives showed me what responsible leadership looks like in practice. Presenting ideas is one thing; following through on real financial impact is another. Seeing books in students’ hands and essentials delivered during the holidays made leadership feel real.
